Fourth Grade is Finishing Strong in the Second Quarter! The second quarter has been an exciting time of growth and learning for our fourth graders! Settled comfortably into the upstairs hallway, they’ve shown tremendous focus and curiosity as we delve into new topics across all subjects. In reading, we’ve sharpened our skills in identifying the main idea and details, making inferences, and summarizing texts. These strategies have helped students become stronger readers and critical thinkers. A highlight of the quarter was our cross-curricular STEM project, where math and reading came together in a unique way. Students designed their own original amusement park rides using area and perimeter to calculate ride dimensions, then wrote persuasive articles to promote their creations. The creativity and effort poured into these projects were truly impressive! In social studies, we are wrapping up our study of early American history and exploring Ohio’s role in the anti-slavery movement. This topic has sparked thoughtful discussions, with students asking insightful questions and showing a deep engagement with the material. They’ve been inspired by the bravery of those who fought for freedom and equality, and their enthusiasm has made each lesson meaningful. In Math, fourth graders have been focusing on multiplying multi-digit numbers, dividing with remainders, finding area and perimeter, and studying all kinds of geometric topics. Students have set goals for themselves for the upcoming MAP tests and have been working hard to achieve those goals. The second quarter has also been filled with moments of reflection and faith. Our weekly school masses and lessons about the Catholic faith continue to guide us in building a supportive and compassionate classroom community. We transition back to Ordinary Time and dive into learning many exciting new things. Our class is beginning the year by exploring the stories of Jesus and His miracles. Alongside this, we are studying the Ten Commandments—unpacking their true meaning and discovering how we can apply them to our daily lives. For 2025, the Fourth Grade is focusing on the Ten Commandments as a cornerstone of our faith studies, with the goal of memorizing all ten! We are excited to have one of our classmates begin the training to be an Altar Server. In English, we are writing step-by-step essays, teaching others how to make new recipes or play a sport. Up next is persuasive writing, which the class is eagerly anticipating! In Reading, we are focusing on realistic fiction, narrator point of view, character perspective, and expanding our vocabulary with context clues. As we finish out the quarter strong, the fourth graders are demonstrating their resilience and commitment to learning. We’re so proud of the growth they’ve shown and can’t wait to see what the second half of the year holds! Keep up the fantastic work, fourth grade!
